Some small changes to ecsyle.com

November 05 2007

I have completed some small cosmetic updates to the site tonight. The old site had some issues with organization and it was bugging me. I got an itch tonight to do something about it and think that I have somewhat improved the overall structure. The sidebar felt misused and cluttered. I have removed the two columns and now have a single column to allow for more breathing room for the content. The menus now create pseudo columns and do not stretch too far down the screen like before. Recent posts has been moved to the home page (out of the sidebar) and is now below the single blog entry on that page. I am not totally sure if that will work however and will probably add a scaled down version of the Recent Posts to the category, comments, and archives pages.

I decided to include some icons to help classify and organize the content and list options. They feel more solid now to me. The change from plain text to image text (using the FIR method) has definitely helped the section titles pop off the page more as well. Overall, the site is feeling much tighter now.  I will continue to tweak it and analyze it of course. Personal sites are never finished.

There is also a small widget now showing my latest art work. This is a teaser for a new section called “Ecsyle.Visual” that will showcase the miscellaneous things I sketch or paint. I do intend to add a search feature eventually, and possible a portfolio. In time. For now, I am happy with the single blog.

As a side note, I have made use of one of my CSS Templates as a base for the site.
